What is appropriate golf attire?Bette I am a young professional and have a company sponsored golf outing at a master's course in Texas. The course is supposed to be pretty nice, but I haven't heard anything about a dress code. What is the most casual thing I can wear without looking trashy (jean shorts vs. canvas shorts... collared shirt vs. solid ringer teeshirt)... ? Also, I don't have (nor can afford) golf shoes. Should I wear sandals or steve madden style tennis shoes?
Pandora I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that if you're asking about appropiate golf attire you either don't play golf, or you very rarely go out and have no clue what you're doing. Which is ok, btw, but I'd add a little to what you're getting here in answers. As a former club pro I played host to hundreds of corporate outings (in AZ) and events and looking like you belong at the club is a good idea. If you're trying to impress a boss or two (who most likely play a lot of golf) you'll want to make sure you don't stand out like a sore thumb.Jeans or denim of any type are not allowed.Do not wear cargo shorts. Golfers don't, you shouldn't either.Dockers makes a nice selection of golf shorts as does Nike. Make sure they are comfortable and aren't too short.Wear a nice, clean, polo-shirt. Make sure the sleeves aren't too short. It's not a gun show. Remember, golfers are CONSERVATIVE by nature, especially at the more prestigious clubs. Your attire should be too.Tennis shoes would be fine but if you want to "fit in" head out and buy some golf shoes. Make sure they have soft spikes (non metal) and are clean.Take with you the following:A baseball style hat. Those big round floppy hats, or straw hats should be a no no for anyone on the up and up.Sunscreen. And use it. You'll be out there a long time.Lip balm. The sun will punish your lips and you don't want chapped lips at the next days meeting.Plenty of golf balls. You can get a dozen of top flites for 20 bucks.Tees.And I'd caution you against drinking too much beer. I've seen plenty of guys get down right stupid during and after a company outing b/c they drank too much.
Arthur I would suggest since it is a golf outing to wear a nice collared polo shirt (maybe with one of those little alligator symbols on it), and a nice ironed pair of shorts (they could be cacky, black, navy blue, forest green, or even white in color). Make sure the shorts go down to a little above the knee, rather than really short. It help you make you look more professional. White socks and clean tennis shoes should be appropriate. I wouldn't wear sandals, myself. I would wear a decent pair of closed toed shoes. Even a hat would be appropriate (but without a logo of any kind). Make sure the color of the hat matches the rest of your outfit. It may be warm that day, and if you're outside, you'll be glad you wore the hat!Have fun and good luck!
Doreen only wear shorts that are cuffed leg with a belt. a collared pullover style shirt, no t shirts. preferably with no other company logos on it. usually light colored for that time of year and location. find a ***** sporting goods and get a pair of cheap golf shoes with spikes (non metal)
Evelyn I'd go for collared shirt and either black trousers or something not too bright. You have to look smart [obviously] but not too over the top!Good Luck!
Kymberly You have to wear a collared shirt. You can't wear jeans.Something like this is what you wear: http://www.nyxgolf.com/images/golfer-man… http://www.shoresresort.com/LiveFiles/5/…Hope this helps. For shoes, just wear your tennis shoes.
Dolly Mikey got it right when he said dress like Tiger and not that punk, Sergio.Do not, repeat, DO NOT, wear sandals. You will look like a huge clueless dork if you do. No t-shirts or short shorts either. If you're going to wear shorts, make them khaki bermudas. This is a corporate outing not a round with your buddies at the local goat ranch over a few beers.
Fern Your best polo shirt and shorts. Its good to have shorts with cargo pockets in case you need to hold a cigar and lighter.Take a look at a PGA event, and dress like Tiger. Not Sergio Garcia. Some courses require golf shoes with soft spikes. Most even have web-sites with dress codes.
Chelsie Every course has a different dress code, some you have to be really dressed up and some you can wear blue jeans. I would say that you should wear tennis shoes (although you can buy some cheap golf shoes at a sporting goods store), collared shirt, and kahki pants that aren't real baggy or that don't have many bulging pockets. You can wear a baseball type hat if you want to.
Efrain If you want cheap clothes go to the Open Door Mission in your area.
Tina I go with khaki shorts with a belt. A collared polo shirt is a must and required. Any color will do. Just remember you are going to be on the course for atleast 3 hours so something that breathes. If you cant afford $29.99 soft spike golf shoes definately go with the steve madden tennis shoes.
Dorthea Most decent courses have a simple dress code... and it's usually this:1) Bermuda-length shorts - NO DENIM!2) Collared shirts are usually required - no tee-shirts or tank-tops.3) Soft-spike shoes only. If the choice is between sandals and tennis shoes - I'd go with tennis shoes for support and stability. If you wear non-denim shorts, a golf-style collared shirt and tennis shoes... you should be fine. Hit 'em straight.P.S. You can pick up golf shoes - especially last year's models - at most pro-shops (shoes take up a lot of stock space) pretty cheaply nowadays. NICE ones for $40 - 50.00. You don't have to spend a fortune. Having spikes really does keep you from slipping on grass!
Dionna No Jeans or cut-offs, collared Knit pull-over shirt. Tennis shoes are fine, don't buy golf shoes just for that.
Bridget 1. NEVER wear jeans on a golf coursei too have an outing next week (North Jersey Football Officials Association Annual Golf Outing) and i will tell you what i plan to wear blue UNC polo golf shirtkhaki cargo shortsnike golf spikesblue NY Yankees hatthats as casual as you can get on a golf course
Harvey I know of one particular course in TX (Dallas), that doesnt' allow shorts of any kind. (Must be slacks). Also, I don't know of any master's course that will not allow golf shoes. Sandals - they will never let thru the front door!!! For cheap golf shoes, try a used sports store, or a used clothing store. (Ive picked up Nike golf shoes - never worn - for $10.00 a pair)(If you live in Dallas, there are a couple of good places in Irving, and N. Dallas).
Irene Texas will probably be very warm, so I recommend either belted khaki shorts (cargo pants may not be nice enough - keep cigars/lighters in your golf bag) or thin, breathable khaki pants. Make sure that your shirt is collared. LIGHT COLORS and an undershirt will be important. Many higher-end courses do not allow you to golf if you are not wearing a collar. Try to find golf shoes on sale somewhere. If you have time once you get to Texas, Academy Sports and Outdoors is usually reasonably priced. You could try your luck at Target or Walmart too. If you really can't find a cheap pair, wear your nicest and cleanest tennis shoes. Many nice courses also don't allow you to play in sandals.Be sure to have plenty of water and an extra towel to wipe your face. It's already starting to get brutal out there!
Nohemi Check out a freds discount store, i had to go in a pinch when the job i had scheduled, cancelled and we decided to play golf, I had my clubs but no clothes with me and 40 miles from home, so i stopped at freds, bought a polo style shirt and bermuda length khakis, ankle socks and a nice belt, for da da da daaah. 19 dollars, ps wear the tennis shoes if no funds.
Adriene dress... shorts... colorful clothing or anything
