Is all hope for college golf lost?Candelaria Hello, Im a freshman the University of Oregon. I came to this school after much thought about going to a smaller school to play golf. I had a few opportunites to play at DIII schools in oregon and californa, but in the end, the no scholarship and having my parents pay 40,000 a year for a lesser education, college experience and a golf pipedream got to me. I am not saying i dont love it here at the U Of O, but seeing all the athletes and reading about freshman golfers across the states, its made me start thinking again. I started playing golf as a sophmore in highschool, (which i understand is terribly late). My first ever tourney i shot 57 on nine holes. I hate being terrible, so i work my *** off all summer, and i was in the low 40's junior year, but i still was not where i wanted to be, so i worked my *** off again, and on the first tourney of the year senior year we went back to the course that i shot 57 on and shot 34 going out. I won twice, with a 72 and a 79, (the 79 being on a course where a oregon am qualifier was taking place the next day.)I just need some advice and thoughts, on weather my dream is dead, or if i should look at some smaller schools for next year and get back out on the range and start working on my game again.
Latanya DOnt give up bro!!! Study hard and play as much as possible. If you dont think you can make the team, try to transfer next year. Make sure your grades are good. In reality shooting 75 may not get you on a D1 team but you can sure play DII. If you can afford it find a pro and get regular lessons. U of O might have a club league that you could join. The kids from team, more than likely, play in the league too. Play some amateur events. This will give you some chance to play under pressure. That will help when it's time to show your stuff to a coach. Or you could hook you with one of the hot little female golfers from the ladies teams. They can get you on free at some courses and give you a little competition too. And... well you know what else. lol Oh... one more thing. Record your swing and send it out to some schools along with a bio and interest letter. If the coach likes your swing he might give you a call. Good luck man.
Sina Make up your mind. Are you talented enough to play college golf? What are the players on this or past teams capable of shooting? Once you have that answer you will know whether to stay or play with a school which performs in another division. $40 large is a hefty price for your parents. One thing for sure, work hard at the game if you wish to succeed.
Gilbert a 79 on that kind of course will get you on in the SEC but you still need to knock 4 or 5 off to get a scholarship. U of O doesn't have a golf team? It's nice to be the head cock but you're not going to get any better if you don't surround yourself with better players. I'd try to walk on
Darrick you are feeling the pressureplay for funlet it happen in its natural courseyour scores will improve by practice/coachingetc
Herma You will do anything to make a dream come true if you really want it. Good Luck.Have a good one...
Evelin OMG dude i totally know your feeling. Your hope is not last. I am not giving up!!! and you shouldn't either. I can't play for school this year, but during summer i'm going to work my *** off and than try out for the team next year!!! NEVER GIVE UP. The coach in this school is actully kinda assHO#$ but i don't care, i still love the game of golf, and i'm sure you love it too. dont' let anyone stop you doing what you love to do
