pro golfing question?

Angele
I am 14 years old and a freshman in high school. I started playing golf about 1 year ago and really loved it and was decent. So I worked at it and became pretty good. I tried out for the school team and made varsity as a freshman. I really would like to become a pro golfer and have a good facility across the street from me. I have a little public branch of Firestone Country Club across the street from me. I have a membership which gives me certain privileges. I go to the range at least 5 days a week but usually 7 days a week. I hit around 300-500 balls a day. I divide it equally for each of my clubs. I usually play 18 holes a week sometimes 27. The course only has nine holes but its still practice. My neighbor has a little putting green and lets me use it anytime I want. This summer I am going to do at least 2 tournaments in addition to my school team. I am currently a 4 handicap at my home course. In school I have good grades (this year I have a cumulative gpa of 3.33). So my question is do you think I have a legit shot of going pro in golf on tours such as the PGA, Nationwide, or Hooters tours. Also how do you go about getting a tour card and how much does it cost. And I forget to add if this means anything. My parents make around $150,000 a year combined and they have bought me all Taylor Made clubs, so they are all top of the line. And I live in Ohio so I can golf for 8 months per year and thats how long my membership lasts for. Thanks in advance

Sounds to me as if you have made all the necessary moves already... The key to becoming good at anything is to practice from sun up to sun down... You seem very mature for a 14 year old... Keep up what you are doing and don't let anyone stand in the way of your dreams... I do like that you are including your GPA in your description of what you are doing to become a Pro Golfer... Most kids don't understand the importance of grades... To answer your question if I personally think you have a shot... YES I do!!! You obviously are surrounded by the right people who are giving you excellent advise, or have an amazing train of thought for a 14 year old.The ONLY bit of advise i can offer you is... You might want to hook up with a very good and reputable golf instructor as usually HS golf coach's are not the best instuctors and have limited knowledge... As a rule HS Golf Coaches are just teachers who happen to play the game and have had no training other then watching the game and reading a couple of articles... Do NOT take the advise of these people on here saying you are too young to think about it yet... For one there is a guy on the pro tour right now who is only 17... I bet they wouldn't be telling him that he is too young... For two you need to start very young to achieve to this goal... Tiger started when he was 5... Again... keep your dreams and don't listen to these people who really knows nothing about becoming a champion... You are on the right track... keep it up.

because your still so young you might not want to be on the tour by the time your that age. If you are certain then maybe look into what courses are available and what qualifications you need for that course (Y) good luck xox <3

Don't worry about going pro yet. Do your best possible in high school golf and try to play golf in college and then after that worry about going pro.

You are a bit too young to think about the pro tour . Take the journey one step at a time. Be the best on your high school team for the 4 years. Enter all the junior tournaments in your area. See how you compare with those contestants. If you are still top of the heap and are shooting sub par golf, consider trying out for the tour or playing college golf. Here you will be playing with the better amateurs who have similar aspirations. This is the point which will tell you whether you will be competitive.
