The people that run the union do not work in the plants, they are professional union organizers. They make lots of money off of the common people who do the work. There are many things that could help the members, but it is like voting for president you don't really get to choose.The members don't have much control over the national officers, and not much more over their local officers.Yes the UAW could do more to help its members if those members could move the organization.It is like the local PTA having influence with the school board, it doesn't happen.

I do not know if that is true, but my question to you is what does it hurt if they do? The UAW is a union, they can invest the money anyway they see fit, they have trained investment people who do just that, invest their monies. I will never understand the perceptions of the public who think that unions and non-profits need to take a vow of poverty. These people have a fiduciary responsibility to invest to protect and grow the monies.
