Otter creek golf course or old silo golf course?

Bertha
A friend and I are going to take a short one day trip to either Otter Creek in Columbus Indiana, or Old Silo in Mt. Sterling Kentucky. I don't know how many people out there have played both, but I figured I would give it a shot. We are in the Cincinnati area, so the drive to Otter Creek is about 75 miles, and 120 miles to Old Silo. They are both about the same cost for 36 holes. Anyone have any reasons to go to one over the other? Thanks

Ashly
I can give you half an answer, anyway. Otter Creek is a great golf course! I live in Indianapolis and play a lot of statewide amateur tournaments, and Otter is so well thought of that it is our State Amateur tournament site at least every 3rd year. For 20+ years it was The State Am site every year! And the qualifying fields always swell when the tournament goes back there. It is a big, broad shouldered piece of land, framed by trees and fairway bunkers, with plenty of room to hit the ball but devilish green complexes. Make sure you play the original routing (I believe it is North and West), as there is a 3rd 9 that is OK but doesn't measure up. Don't play the absolute tip tees on holes 7 and 9, but do look back there and see where the tee boxes are. Those holes are for real from back there! While inside, go upstairs and look at all the photos from past state am champs at Otter creek. See how many you have heard of, I think you will be surprised!Have fun!
