Is it safe to eat fish from golf course canals and ponds in sw florida?Chan With all the fertilizers and insect control chemicals they put on the courses, there is NO WAY I would. The rain run off goes into the ponds and canals, chemicals are absorbed by fish. Fish for fun, but please don't eat.
Debra You've got lakes and ponds down that way that the female alligators are going into menopause before they reach breedable size, and the few that do breed end up laying fragile eggs that if they do hatch produce deformed offspring. If you ask around, you might be told it's perfectly safe... but I tend to look at the effects of the habitat and food supply on the higher predators...
Odilia DO NOT EAT FISH FROM GOLF COURSE PONDS. As the others have stated. All types of chemicals used for course maintenance and insect control will be absorbed by the fish and then to you if eaten. Don't do it.
Eryn with all the chemicals that they use to keep the grass looking pretty I would say that eating fish from golf course ponds and canals is very very risky and not a good idea
Seymour If the canal has moving water, I suppose it might be alright, but only as a last resort. Ponds? No way.
