Is it just the weather that makes people move to florida?Celsa My parents spend the winters in Florida and I visit them each year. I always find it to be very monotonous. It seems people are leaving their home states in droves and heading to this state. I understand that other places may have colder winters, but other than sunshine I don't feel Florida has much to offer. It's flat, lots of bugs, and kind of trashy. And now with so many people EVERYWHERE you go there, it's just like any other crowded place. Crime rates are skyrocketing, and all the land is becoming golf courses, the aesthetic equivalent of a green parking lot. So is it just the weather?
Bernadine I would say retirees go because 1. the weater is good2. cost of living is LOW and even if you paid a lot for waterfront property, waterfront NEVER depreciates.3. retiree entertainment fields are actually the largest in Florida, even though you found it boring: largest # of golf courseslargest # of older-generation performers/concertslargest # of cruises (discounts for older FLA residents)all types of weekend/overnight/day tours to facilitate retiress who cannot drive or get around as much anymoreetc. I think you'll find that Vegas and AR areas have similar benefits and attract retirees as well, in droves, but mainly from teh west coast.I think itis a choice between humid or dry climates
Asa I have been to Florida as a tourist this past january.I fell in love with it. I have been to Miami, naples and down to the Keys as far as Key West.I love Florida first because of the weather, granted, then I loved places like naples and Marco Island, people are friendly all over, I love the sea,... I'd pick 10000000 reasons to escape to Florida for good.
Joaquin Other than hoping to get lucky, that's about it.
Pinkie It is retired people with limited income that take advantage of low cost retirement homes. As for other people I agree with you. Florida has nothing to offer except its tourist traps and there are many. Tourism is Florida's best industry.I have friends that moved from Connecticut to Florida and after a few years moved to another state. They couldn't get a high paying job that they are skilled in and could not keep up with the high cost of electricity to cool their homes.None returned to Connecticut, except to visit family.
Bianca You're just a tad biased. Naples is in the middle of nothing, and mostly a place where people go to die.Try Miami and the West Palm area. The demographics in South Florida, as well as the rest of the state, have changed rather dramatically.
Aja NO. I live in FL,I like the water,. Trashy? I don't know where U were in FL, but its far from trashy. Some homes in my area are over 6 million dollars,SARASOTA,Gulf of MEXICO.,LONG BOAT KEY.BIRD KEY<SIESTA KEY?KEY WEST?PALM BEACH?MIAMI BEACH?Try a room at the BREAKERS,in PALM BEACH..In response to no class, good luck to you.
Claretta I don't understand why people want to live in a place where they can have everything they own and worked so hard to build be destroyed by one hurricane.
