Why does las vegas exist?Frankie
I was there for a wedding last week (first time to ever go, and certainly the last) and was told the newest casion "The Wynn" cost 9 billion to build. Golf courses in the desert? The Colorado River does not rich the Baja penninsula anymore and they are building golf courses in the desert for that much money? 9 billion could cure some serious problems for nations of the third world. You multiply 9 billion by the amount of casinos on the strip, how can you not cry for the world?

those 'wasteful' casinos pay my salary (teacher) and that of every other public employee in the state. yes, a golf course is a big waste of water and it pisses me off that i can't wash my car in the driveway but the bellagio, et al can run their fountains non-stop. but you take the good with the bad. casinos pay excellent wages and provide a lot of jobs for a lot of people. as wasteful as a city like las vegas may seem to you, it's home for many of us and an escape to many, many more. vegas may not be perfect but it has it's good points too.

How is it a bad thing?People have money they wish to put in there, Would you rather they put in in a resort in the mountains? They wouldn't be spending it on third world nations anyway, but it IS THEIRS to do with as THEY please. Just because you wouldn't spend your money doing that, and don't "approve" of it, doesn't mean it doesn't have the right to be there. Don't go back, no one is forcing you. But spend some of your money on a chill pill dude.

Someone wanted a town there. He or she or they were able to get other people to move there. It seems that the whole state of Nevada exists for the purpose of gambling. I am not sure what I would do with 9 billion dollars. What would you do with 9 billion dollars? It is easy to say what to do with it until it is yours. I know I have changed my mind many times of what to do with smaller amounts like hundreds of dollars. I am doing what I can for the world right now with what I have.

And exactly who do you think builds those golf courses and casinos and works there? The Keebeler Elves maybe. Did they snap their fingers and Voila, a casino and golf course. Tell all the people who got jobs building that place and working there to go live somewhere else because your moral superiority complex says to spend the money somewhere else.
