What are my chances to play high school college golf?Annamaria I am 14 years old, Freshman in high school. I practice on the range every day for 4-5 hours with 1 hour of short game/bunker practice. Also another hour for putting. My handicap is a 12 right now but my home course was under repair so I didn't get any course play. The handicap should go down because since the course is closed, all I do is practice and am playing way better and consistantly. My only down side is I'm pretty small and can only driver about 225-235 yards. I go to De La Salle High School in California. You know the one with the 141 game unbeaten football streak, #1 ranked football team in the country. Their Varsity won the state championship last year but I'm only trying for J.V. of Freshman.
Hien your chances are as high as you set them. granted i play on our girls team at my high school, but i really started playing well my 9-11th years (i'm a junior now... )my 9th grade year i was shooting anywhere b/w 50 and 60... tehn i decided that i was going to practice, just like you did, except for less time on the range, and now i am constantly b/w 39 and 41. right now, if you are a 12 HC then you prolly can play at smaller D2 or D3 schools. Maybe even D1-AA. I have had many of the smaller schools (PC, College of Charleston, USC-Upstate) all start looking at me with the scores that i have.your dreams are as high as you want to set them.good luck to you!
Sulema You will do fine, plus talk to the Foothill College coach in the Bay Area, tell him Doug sent you. He can use you in a few years. His name is Gene.
Lindy it depends on your high school golf teams standards, Im a Junior, and i made the freshmen team my freshmen year shooting a 40 on the try out round, which isnt very good, but it got me on the team, i then shot a 37 as a sophmore and made varsity, it all depends on how good the existing teams are, but the most important thing is to try out, and keep a good attitude, coaches like that
